Katy Chey is a licensed architect with the Ontario Association of Architects and is a LEED Accredited Professional specializing in Building Design and Construction. She earned a Bachelor of Technology in Architectural Science from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) in Toronto, Canada, and Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture, both from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, USA.
Prior to starting her design office, Katy gained extensive professional experience on a vast array of distinguished architectural projects at award-winning architecture firms in New York City and Toronto. She completed work on stadiums, performing arts centres, hospitals, academic institutions, libraries, multi-unit housing, and retail, office and hospitality interiors.
In her own practice, Katy demonstrates a wide range of design awareness, skills and interests. Her portfolio includes projects in commercial interiors, residential additions and renovations, furniture design, art installations, and publications. Her spaces are thoroughly enjoyed by patrons; +Table furniture garnered the attention of Azure Magazine, Globe and Mail, and New York Times; Park Here public art at Toronto City Hall for Nuit Blanche 2015 was cited as a must-see by Blog TO, Designlines and Toronto Life; and Multi-Unit Housing in Urban Cities: From 1800 to Present Day book was praised as “a tremendously valuable tool for city planners, urban designers and architects” by Canadian Architect.
Since 2011, Katy has been teaching at the University of Toronto John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design. Katy believes that architecture can shape communities, enhance the quality of life, and she is passionate to educate and mentor architectural understanding and appreciation to young architects. Katy works, teaches and lives in Toronto. When not in the office or classroom, she is playing pickleball! She is a multi-unit housing dweller and her home was featured in Globe and Mail Style section.
